ASHA-PAC Money : Where Does It Go?
(A big "thank you" to The Center For Responsive Politics and their website Open Secrets for making this information available to the public. Other sources for the information in this post include the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and various PAC websites.)
The latest PAC summary posted on Open Secrets reports that ASHA's political action committee, ASHA-PAC, had receipts of $153,200. 65% of this money went to Democrats and 35% went to Republicans. Here's a list of where Open Secrets says the money went in the 2007-2008 reporting cycle (reproduced in full below). Here's the list for 2010 (I will reproduce this list in full here next Monday). I'll be analyzing where ASHA-PAC's money goes in the months ahead. Stay tuned.
Two ASHA-PAC contributions immediately stand out:
Open Secrets states that in the last reporting cycle (2007-2008), ASHA-PAC sent a $1000.00 contribution to the Friends of Rahm Emmanuel . Rahm Emmanuel is the sensitive Obama White House staffer who made the infamous comment about people being "f@#@ing retarded." Rahm is obviously a man who is sensitive to the plight of children with disabilities (or is it "children with f@#@ing disabilities"?). Friends of Rahm Emmanuel doled out 100% of its war chest to Democrats. Rahm is an ultra-liberal member of the Obama regime and a danger to liberty and freedom: he has been one of the major players in the socialist takeover of our health care system; he wants national compulsory service for all youth (so much for liberty, self-determination, and parental rights) and was given the worst grade ("F") that the NRA hands out because of his extreme opposition to the second amendment constitutional rights of citizens. Americans for Tax Reform gives him an abysmally low score of 5% because of his consistently pro-big government, pro-high taxation stands. He has a 100% pro-abortion voting record. I guess Rahm thinks abortion is the best way to deal with "f#@#king retarded" children. It's a good thing for Rahm that his mother didn't feel the same way about him.

Open Secrets reports that in 2010, $2,500 of ASHA-PAC money went to "Botox Nancy" Pelosi for Congress. Pelosi is one of the most despised politicians in the country (her approval ratings were 11% in March, 2010). She made it to #8 on the Judicial Watch website's "ten most wanted corrupt politicians" of 2009 list. She was instrumental in ramming the Health Care Reform bill through with backroom deals and payouts even though the majority of the country was opposed to it (opposition to the health care reform bill has grown since its passage). She owns a $25 million dollar vineyard/winery, and its workers - despite Pelosi's lavish public praise of unions - are non-union (no surprise there - most limousine liberals are hypocrites when it comes to anything affecting their own bottom line). Wine mogul Pelosi has nothing but contempt for voters, democracy, and anyone who can't tell the difference between a good and bad cabernet.

ASHA Convention Giveaway To Be Based On Race/Ethnicity
This charming announcement is from an email sent out by ASHA on March 30, 2010.
The Minority Student Leadership Program application period is open through May 3, 2010. This program is for you if you want to enhance your leadership skills, interact with leaders in our professions, and learn how your Association works. Join over 350 students from racial/ethnic minority backgrounds who have gained insight into their leadership abilities, have gotten a better understanding of how leaders effect change within ASHA, and have become empowered to take risks and meet their own challenges. All students are eligible to apply; however, preference will be given to students from racial/ethnic minority backgrounds that have historically been underrepresented in the Association. So what do students from preferred racial/ethnic minority backgrounds accepted into the program get ? Answer: "complimentary ASHA 2010 convention registration," "up to five nights of lodging," and a "meal stipend." White students who hope to attend the convention in Philadelphia, however, will need to start putting in double shifts at work and pinching their pennies. Once white students arrive in Philadelphia, they'll have to search the city for low-cost diners and early-bird specials (Philadelphia has a number of soup kitchens set up for the poor and homeless; ASHA convention information booths will happily provide directions to white students).

This ASHA program states that it will provide a way for students to "enhance your leadership skills, interact with leaders in our professions, and learn how your Association works." Since no white college-aged student anywhere on the planet ever had a need to enhance their leadership skills or interact with leaders in their profession, ASHA wisely gives them a lower preference in the selection process (meaning: fat chance!). As far as learning how the Association works, I've been studying ASHA for a long time, and I can save all student SLPs a lot of time and trouble by giving them a heads up: the Association doesn't work - and this program is just one more of the many egregious examples of why it doesn't work.
Okay, if this program is about enhancing leadership skills, interacting with leaders, and learning about ASHA, why isn't it offered to every student on a first-come, first-served basis, the way we usually do things here in the USA?
Apparently, ASHA doesn't think so. Maybe it's because this common-sense approach is far too radical a concept for diversity and multiculturally-obsessed ASHA: it might actually lead to ASHA treating everybody as equals.
The new racism practiced by liberals teaches that it's only racism and bigotry when the victims are people of color; when white individuals are the victims of discrimination and exclusionary practices, it's perfectly acceptable. The new racists believe they have perfectly rational, historically, socially, and culturally important reasons for discriminating against white people and giving greater preference to people of color. The old-style racists, however, believed they had perfectly rational, historically, socially, and culturally important reasons for discriminating against people of color and giving greater preference to white people.
As anyone can see, it's blazingly obvious why liberals think that one is justified while the other isn't.
"Mommy is sorry, P.J., but you can't join the other kids at ASHA's convention because our family isn't from a racial/ethnic minority background that has been historically underrepresented in the Association!"

I wouldn't be at all surprised. That's how the new racists hide their racism and bigotry: behind weasel words and phrases rather than sheets and burning crosses.
Here's a question for ASHA's board of directors: if ASHA is going to offer white people fewer opportunities for professional growth than individuals "from racial/ethnic backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in the Association," shouldn't there be some kind of discount on dues and fees for those men and women who have been historically over-represented in the Association?
